Proddatur is the second-largest town in YSR Kadapa district and one of Rayalaseema's most commercially active markets, famous for its cotton and textile trade. The town has one of Andhra Pradesh's most active wholesale cloth markets, drawing traders from across the region daily and generating sustained commercial footfall throughout the week.

Proddatur has multiple degree and engineering colleges, a large government hospital, and a rapidly expanding APIIDC industrial area that employs thousands. The Penna river belt surrounding the town supports rich agricultural trade, adding to the commercial density.

Unlike coastal cities, Proddatur has minimal organised café presence — chai is consumed almost exclusively from roadside stalls. A branded, hygienic Chai Bunk outlet will immediately stand out and attract the upwardly mobile urban consumer who wants quality but at ₹15–20 price points.
